Black eye story #1, she really does look happy, doesn’t she? Black eyed Liz really is a trooper.

WII have a black eye

..Ladies and gentlemen, join with me now in bowing before what is easily the most painful looking Wii injury to date. Her boyfriend fills us in on what happened…

“The day our Wii arrived also happened to be when my work was holding our Christmas party. Not being one to forego free booze, off I went leaving the girlie to play to her hearts content.

After guzzling a copious amount of ‘wife beater’ (Stella Artois) - I returned home to find the girlie in mid battle with a Zelda ‘Boss’. In my inebriated state, it was instinctual to become her knight in shining armour. I proceeded to take the controllers off her and fight the beast myself.

Unfortunately, my courage was far greater then my skill. Having taken a good kicking, Liz then tried to intervene with disastrous results. She approached me from the side, appearing from my blind spot, whilst I was performing a slashing movement. I hit her with full force right in her eye!

I truly thought I’d blinded her and was almost about to call an abulance but then her pain died down. You can see the results of the accident in the attached photo…

I’m lucky that Liz is a good sport, but it did cost me, Liz has first dibs on the Wii… a small price to pay - I guess -Jim”

How I got my black eye, a multiple choice quiz:

A. Some bad guys were trying to steal my mommy’s purse. My spider-sense started tingling and my bat ears heard her cries. I raced over to the alley, super-fast, in my snowboots, and went all ninja turtle on the guys. I got this black eye, but you should see the bad guys!

B. My big brother finally got sick of my $#@* and popped me one, right in the eye.

C. We were playing outside at L’s house and one of my friends was swinging a plastic bucket full of water. Right as L said “D, stop swinging that–” CRACK– WAAAAH! It hit me right in the eye.

D. I was just trying to help the guys putting in our concrete patio! But jumping off the flatbed truck and backhoe isn’t so much helpful as it is dangerous.

E. I am trying to look like my really cool older cousin, except he has 2 black eyes, from his broken nose!

While all these are plausible guesses, the correct answer is C. It happened yesterday afternoon at L’s house. She called me, very worried, and asked me to come right over. Now, L has 3 kids of her own, and has been a childcare provider for probably 15 years. I would think that she has seen it all! But she was really alarmed by how quickly his eye swelled- by the time she grabbed him and carried him inside the house to get some ice, it had swollen shut and was the size of a baseball! That’s when she called me.

Black Eye #3… Watch out for those sharp turns.

There’s a quick, left hand curve. I’m only an eighth of a mile from the house at this point so I have done it many times. I’m carving a beautiful turn when BANG! I hit the deck so fast I land on my face which I’ve never done before… at least not literally. Construction trucks have been using Euclid while the street parallel to it (Spruce Ave) is being repaved. I hit a nice grease spot which took out my front wheel just as though I were cycling on ice. See the grease evidence on my left shoulder. A driver pulls over and a couple of pedestrians approach as I collect myself off the road. Of course, I immediately check my bike for damage and I’m momentarily pleased that it seems to have suffered very little. But while checking my bike, I start dripping on it and as I look up at the people gathered around me, each turns away with a look of disgust as I make eye contact. I get the hint. I then start feeling a little sick myself and sit on the grass. A guy I know from the local dog park and a former cop takes control at this point. He calls 911 which I think isn’t necessary and in less than 5 minutes there is a motorcycle cop, a fire truck and a paramedic van at my feet and clogging traffic. I’m feeling a little embarrassed and even more so when they put me on the gurney and ship me off to Alta Bates Hospital. Once I arrive at least 10 people treat me like I’m royalty. What service or maybe just a slow day. They are very impressed with my new Sidi Ergo cycling shoes and are equally impressed at how much they cost. I say “… and that’s the discount price.” A couple nurses fumble with the many buckles and straps trying to get them off and I fear they are going to cut them off so I make sure not to pass out. Doctors and technicians then pepper me with questions and a nice looking nurse comes in to clean me up and asks whether I need any help taking my clothes off. A friendly place or what!!

All the fuss was about two cuts above and below my eye caused by my prescription sunglasses at impact. It’s ironic that in the eight years I’ve owned them I’ve never dropped them even once! Now one lens has very deep scratches and the frames are badly damaged. I’m sure most people are tired of them anyway so it’s a good time to get a new pair. The cut below my eye was apparently a really good one and they weren’t sure whether they could sew it up. But they did a fine job don’t you think?

Now there is no black eye story for this chick in pink, but geeeez, that is a serious shiner, so had to show her one more time.

Attack of the Goose

Canadian Goose tries to show who’s boss on that boat. The Goose takes offense at the people leaving with the boat and attacks the boat, passengers and Dog over and over. This goose didn’t go for the throat, he went for the ass, of the dog that is, chasing and biting the poor pooch. The pooch, seemed to have no clue what to do about the aggressive goose other than run.

The Goose finally gave up after a pretty good brawl and let the people get away with the boat. Wow, that is one bad ass goose that I hope I never run into.

Funny thing is, I have been chased by a goose before, and the goose did take a snip at my ass, jumped up to bite my butt even though my legs and ankles were far closer.

Anyway, this is one funny, funny brawl.
